Byee Rena!!

RUBY? did you leave also?

Kathy, still around?

the tripe and chitterlings conversation came about when Jenni's chef cooked tripe for guests last night! She said it was good, but the house did have a certain smell about it during cooking time.

KATHY, this wimp brought a RECLINER. Know it does not look like one, but when i first saw that chair, or similar, in a TV commercial advertisement, I have wanted one and i wanted a RED one! but since I had recently purchased a new recliner, hubbby squashed that idea.

Recliner avatar is courtesy of Lazyboy catalogue. could not have it in the mundane world, I had it delivered here.

You're using a RECLINER at our meetings???
How very decadent!!
Isn't tripe the lining of some critter's stomach?
Ditto for chitterlings? He cooked it for guests??
And the 'aroma' was wafting through the house??
Did the guests leave a forwarding address?

KATHY, JUNE, so sorry I missed you!

KATHY, Chitterlings are pig intestins, Tripe is stomach tissue of an ox. I found both in online websters dictionary. Jenni reported everyone enjoyed the meal. Braver man than I. . .

I AM NOT asleep in my recliner! Have not sat in it today but once. I been busy today. After lunch, I had a friend with a crisis in her life and held her hand a while. Hand holding can be tiring, I NEED that recliner now.

You know you are a sudokuaholic if . . . you get up at 4 am to work the puzzles.

OOOPS, that should have beeen 'JUNE, Chitterlings are.. . ., it was you who asked, not Kathy.

BTW, in much of the south, these are still eaten, espically by some ethnic groups, and they are called Chitlings.

My hubby loves chitterlings.....with hot sauce and vinegar....they smell too bad for me to have ever tried them. They are considered a delicacy...much like chocolate covered ants, caviar, etc.....but they are not my cup of tea. They are difficult to clean, smell bad cooking..much worst than cabbage or other greens, and I don't like their origin...however everything we eat comes from somewhere. Tripe, chitterlings, chicken livers, and gizzards, tongue, etc were staples of slaves...they had to find a way to use the discarded food stuffs they were allotted to feed their families. Many Afro-Americans include them in their soul food accounts. Many Italians also made use of them, but prepared them in a different manner...so it goes back to the adage....waste not, want not...folks learned to use what was available, and enjoyed it!

Am I alone here again...I've showered folks, I brushed my teeth and made use of deodorant...why am I always alone??? Complex time....lol! Maybe you think I'm cooking Chitterlings...never have, never will...my hubby has not had them since those he knew who would/could cook and clean them to his satisfaction are no longer with us....hmmmm? Is there a correlation?

Mamacita, I was just over at your page, guess we crossed paths in cyber space somewhere!!

Yes, I too am aware of the slaves using the 'less choice' of the food to sustain them. How things like hog jawls and pigs feet or ears, chicken feet were cooked and eaten. The English still make kidney pie, not sure I would want to try. After the civil war, many newly impoverished whites owe thier survival to thier former slaves who taught them to eat every part of an animal, so 'soul food' passed on to the rest of the south, too.

Something similar happend in the westyward migration of the USA. Women in a new locale who did not have the apples and other known fruit to make jams and jellies and pies, found whatever grew locally and utilized them. goes to show, women are going to find somthing to feed thier families, whbgerever they are, with a bit of creativity!

SO WHAT'S FOR DINNER AT YOUR HOUSE?

Thanks Mamacita for the explanation of chitterlings, offal is a no no for my gout!. My Grandmother cooked tripe and I loved it, Hubby is not keen on it. He accepts me getting back into bed with cold feet and 'have you finished the puzzles?' Will go and take a photo of my 'chair'

I now have my chair. It is an antique that belonged to my great grandmother. It is part of a dining room set with table six chairs, grandmother and grandfather chairs plus chaise lounge. I have the whole set. I had it re-uphostered several years ago but retained the patterned parts that you can see. I do have on old photo taken in 1907 and one of the chairs is in the photo. They were married in 1882 but not sure when they purchased the chairs.

JUNE, when you come back, do tell us what you are sewing. I need to be sewing too, but cannot get motivated. Still love to hear what others might be doing that is creative.

OH, You might have said that Epping is a suburb of Sydney, but I had to go look it up to find out! I wanted to check your COLD weather. Friends, the temp at 4 am when June was 'freezing' was a reported 50 degrees F in Sydney. Now it did get a bit colder fore the sun came up, but FREEZING?? Get you some polar tec slippers June, keep feet toasty warm down to 45 at least :>) Also, you might need that portable heater. OH OH, I know, a rice sock! It is like a heating pad, but NO CORDS. Nice spot of warm on a chilly morning.

I am making a skirt to wear to a wedding in UK in July. The material is a very soft silk that Hubby bought for me in India last year. It has a black background with with small brownish stylised flowery pattern. I want to make a below knee lenght skirt with a flare at the bottom. I am adapting a pattern for what I want which takes time and then I am reluctant to star cutting the material. ONCE that is done it will not take long to make. Do not make much for myself these days as I have put on weight and things do not always suit when I have finished.
I do have lambswool slippers. Anyway you are up late MizTricia

Your chair looks very regal.
You know, I coud sit in MizT's chair while she isn't looking. hehehe
