Hi Mary.Here are some explanations for the 3rd.Aug. Tough:
The grid is numbered a,b......i from left to right,and 1,2......9 bottom to top,similar to a chess board.
Sotir uses the "Eureka" notation,of which there is an understandable translation by Dave from Minnesota (see Archives Sunday Nov.23rd 2008).In short,the first "=" sign means "or".After that,"=" means "Enables" and "-" means "Forbids".
In "English";If i2=8,b6=8;
If h3=8,i4=8.
Either way,c4 and h6 are not 8 .Hence c4=4,h6=2 and unique possibilities to 81.
Hope this helps. Alfred.
