I'm getting frustrated that I can't sort similar avatars close to each other. Do I have too many avatars? Can't be - I don't have one for every holiday or special occasion.

LOL Julie..
I'm on sudoku time. This is a fairly normal time for me to be up and around, but I don't always get to posting so early.

What are you up to today Julie?
I'm trying to plan my day. Tonight I have to take Ally to practice for Carols in the Park at 5, and Ebob to gym at 6. I hope they finish around the same time!! I've got a feeling Ally and I will be hanging around waiting for Ebob though.
Today do I shop for fabric for Ally's presentation night costume, or do I write christmas cards??? What to do, what to do!!

Have you ever had a day when nothing seems to go right?
IH was having tantrums about everything, stressing me out.
Three of the calves lost their electronic ear tags
and we didn't have time to put new ones in, and redo the paperwork, so they got left at home. The weather was miserable... snow and sleet. The driver with the big double decker trailer got lost, so we had to wait out in the sleet and wind 'til he made it here. One calf escaped at the loadout facility, and it took 7 people a half hour to catch the little bugger. And all of the loading took place in deep mud. But they are on their way now. And I just got back in after hosing out my trailer.

Heidi, do you think the calves knew where they were headed???
After imagining Brenda frozen in position trying to get into her car, I am now imagining you with blocks of ice on your feet doing big monster steps trying to get back inside!

Julie.... if you think it's frustrating that you can't sort your avatars, try dealing with my smilie problem. (I know, MizT... it;s self inflicted.) Over 500 smilies, and all of them randomly placed. Gath doesn't even put them on the page in the order that they were approved.

With all those problems loading I hope you get a good price for the calves.
I can just picture the whole scene.

Try changing that picture to blocks of mud, and you would have an accurate picture, Suzy.

June, we should get about a dollar per pound, once they're ready to go. They should weigh 1200 to 1300 pounds each then.

I've got my tea, some aspirin, and a leftover italian sausage on bread for lunch. Then I need to fire up the tractor and feed hay
to the cows.

Long time since I have looked at cattle prices here Heidi. I seem to think 10 years ago if we got$1 per kilo (2 lb) we were doing well

Hmmmm. I think there's a radio station that has stock report type news on around lunch time. It would be interesting to see how much Aussie farmers are getting for their cattle now. When I got home from the States in 2000 the huge cost of meat here compared to CA shocked me. I wonder if it is the farmers or the middle men getting the money???

There's a big difference between feeder cattle and finished cattle in prices. We deal with the prices you see on the futures markets (stock exchange?) We don't sell that many off the farm.

Hi Julie and Suzy - still in my jammies coz my stomach isn't happy. I'm afraid it's my ulcer acting up. It doesn't happen very often...not for about 7 years now. Don't quite know what kicked it off this time.
Suzy - where you who I was chatting with who wanted my cheesecake recipe? I have it on my pooter now.

Suzy... by retaining ownership in the feedlot, we cut out the middle men. It's a lot more paperwork, and we don't get paid as soon as the cattle leave the farm, but we make more money per calf.

Oops - didn't realize there was a new page...hello to June and Heidi, too.
Does anyone read my posts? I guess I'm feeling a little sorry for myself coz I'm not well...but everyone always seems to wish others well on this page. Oh well - I think I'll slink off now that I've exposed my sensitivity.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but I'm trying to add another species to the farm/ Zoo. I'm bidding on some Red Golden Pheasants on eggbid. I'll just keep them in with my laying hens. They've got a warm building inside, and a covered 50'x35' outdoor run. I've just submitted some smilies of them.

I just looked at info on the eggs Heidi is bidding on: red golden pheasants. The males appear to be quite spectacular.
Now, I REALLY must go do some ffuts.
