Your comment about the Jacaranda picture on my page reminded me generally of the halos that fallen petals create aroung the base of flowering trees. Especially hawthorn (red [best one], white or pink); also Frangipanni, althouth in that case the whole corolla is shed rather than individual petals - so it is not so much a halo as - well -I can't think of a word!

Brilliant Shosho,
I have actually seen them perform once before, but I think it was the next round that I saw. My daughter came running down once and insisted I watch it!

It means a lot to me that you were so kind to think about my problem and offer an idea for a solution.
I thought about a party -- and a pot luck sounds great because I'd love to just relax to enjoy my friends -- but we have no place to have an indoor party in late November, plus it's so close to Thanksgiving that it's hard to coordinate with everyone's holiday plans. If I belonged to a church with a building I could use, I'd throw a party for our 25th, but I'd have to rent any space I'd use, and that's too hard to do right now.
I'm thinking of just making it a point throughout the year of having "come on over" dinners for 1 or 2 families -- you, know, just entertaining more. I'm coming to the conclusion that the way to mark our 25th is not by looking back or by having a big event, but by consciously choosing to DO things that are meaningful while we still can. I have a tendency to put things off. So, at 25 years I'm resolving that "the day" has finally come, e.g., I'm getting out the guest towels and using them for everyday!

Hi Sharon. Thanks for responding... wasn't sure that anyone heard me (or noticed, lol). Monte's teacher has been doing this for 25 years so it's not her first spin around this block. The problem lies with that Monte is not an ordinary child that fits nice and neat in their box, so to speak. He never has, and probably never will. I guess I finally spoke loud enough, because they are finally going to test him for all manner of things that I signed for. Obviously, they can not diagnose him with anything, but hopefully they will get their heads out of their... uh... shirts, and quit treating him like filth. He doesn't respond to the way they do things, so he gets in trouble. Last week, he missed all 3 recesses everyday, gym, music, and almost lost the "privilege" to enjoy the Halloween party with his class. The party, mind you, that I had to bring a treat for! I was so mad, I kept him home that morning, so that he couldn't get into any more trouble. Made him do all his work and all his corrections (which he did himself, with me at the table only to keep him moving). I was so mad when we got to school and the teacher told him too bad, this isn't the way things work, and made him scrub walls (granted he wrote on them in pencil because they thought it was appropriate to leave a 6 yr old alone in a very small room with a pile of work to do and a pencil, sigh). Not a single 'good job' on the massive amount of work he did in about 2 hours. I mean, there were 16 worksheets of corrections, 8 unfinished pages, and 5 new ones. That's an enormous amount of work to be piled up for a little guy! Anyways, after a half hour of him scrubbing (and crying because it wouldn't come off), I brought him to the office and told them I was taking him home. They quickly let him go to his party, which I attended the entire thing to make sure nothing else happened. He was a totally great kid during the party, too. Sharon, I'm at my wits end. I have heard nothing good, except "your son is a very bright boy, but...". If you had a child who had NEVER had a good day at school and was out of warnings, would you have kept him home, or would you have sent him and had him miss his party to stare at blank walls while ignoring the mountain of work that needed to be completed? I don't know if I did the right thing or not, but I'd do it again even though it made his teacher really mad. I spoke with the Lutheran school in town, to see what they had to offer. Unfortunately, their teacher is brand new this year. Brand new, as in, right out of college and offered zero helpful hints. Anyways, I was just offering up what's going on in my life lately. Glad to know that someone heard me :) I hope you are well. Did I hear correctly? You are going to the West Coast Sudoku Meeting? Wish I could attend, but don't have the time, nor the money. Someday... Take Care, I Care.

Hello dear. thank you so much for your story! I plan to approach his teacher with a possibility of something similar. I have a strong feeling that she will be against it, but I won't know until I try. I have documented everything that I have brought up with her and her dismissal of all my ideas of things that could possibly done. I will try this one too. No reason not to, and I might be surprised :) God Bless your son and please tell him that I said thanks for his service.

Hi Sharon! Yes, Kyley, our youngest daughter, is the local one. We live about halfway between her home & the school where she teaches. She's having a very tough year, challenging kids in her class plus taking classes to earn her Masters degree. She's a very hard worker & a very good teacher from what I've been told. Was voted Teacher of the Year at her school after only four years of teaching. Now suddenly she's talking about teaching at the community college level. Here in FL she wouldn't need a PHD, only her Masters plus 18 hours. Can't wait to see you & the rest of the gang in SF. Have a good week & a safe trip!

Hi shosho
Thanks for the hint about how to use the pictures. I never thought of dragging and dropping them! I've always tried copying them and pasting the code - that never worked. I shall follow your instructions from now on.
Thanks again.

Hi, Shosho! Yes, I think it's on page 2. I had posted a general announcement on "easy" to see if anyone was interested in meeting for breakfast on Saturday and then left a message for you about meeting up with you later since I knew you wouldn't be arriving until about 11. Anyway, it would be great if we could all catch up with each other late morning. I hadn't made definite plans for Sat. morning until now because I wasn't sure when I was going to be seeing my cousin, but that won't happen until Sunday. Anyway, it's been a real challenge to fit everything in!!!

OK, you've put it in perspective for me. I do remember finding something on YouTube and sending you the URL but for the life of me, I don't remember exactly what the clip was about but remember the guy had a wonderful Scottish brogue. I'll poke around and see if something like that pops up.

Hi Sharon, thanks for your best wishes after our storm. We are all ok and clearing everything up, but it is so devestating looking at all the broken trees - either ripped out of the ground or with the tops torn off.
I loved all your photos, it looked like a great gathering. I must admit that the ones I've been to have been a real hoot. People you do (but don't really) know, and all the fun you can have just from playing a game on the computer.
We are so lucky to have met such a great group of people world wide!

Also... I just want to say "Hello!"
