Suzy, most poeople here do not know or care about the connection between sun rays and skin cancers. I get a lot of strang looks wearing my hats. I will be out and about and be the ONLY person who is hatted. I have learned to not pay attention to the stares. If they think I am strange, well they may be right, but wearing a hat is not the proof of it hehehe.
I do hope Saturday to be able to go to a craft fair and mini music festival, here in Montevallo. It will be at the park along the river, I hope I can remember my camera. I need to show you this 'river', I could walk across at any spot and most places never get wet above my knees.

Nola, THANKS for mentioning the little chocolate eggs - not! Guess what I have pulled out now?
Stella, hope it's nothing serious with your mum.
MizT, most people here do know the connection, and don't wear hats anyway. In Primary School (up to 6th Grade) there is a 'no hat, no play' policy so kids wear them so they don't have to spend their lunch breaks in the weather shed. In High School some of the boys wear baseball/ cricket type caps, it would be very uncool for a girl to do the same, though Ebob has been known to wear one of her baseball caps to school. She doesn't care about cool.

I looked at the marked down chocolate today, and left it in the bin. None of it looked particularly tempting today. Am I virtuous or what?
Was not planning on going into the grocery, but mentioned to hubby I had forgotten to buy frozen french fries last week. he decided he could make a special stop for french fries hehehe. There are some brands now that do not have trans fats, and much less of the unsaturated fats than before. I oven cook them, so after years of no fries, I can see why he would make a special trip to get some. If I serve them with fat free sandwiches or meats, we can stay within the limit on fat grams for a meal.

Suzy, here many schools have a NO HAT rule! To many of the gangs were wearing certain hats to show their affiliation, so no hats allowed. Kids just changed to a scarf or a certain color instead, they did not accomplish much with that rule. but like many rules, it was never removed.

Yesterday I had fish and chips for lunch on my way to work.I felt so bloated all the shift, that and all the chocolate is not good.
I have found the oven fry chips to be just as tasty Mizt,at least it does help a little as you said.

MizT, I saw something on TV about frozen french fries a couple of months ago. Some of them are ridiculously unhealthy and should be avoided like the plague, even when cooked in the oven, others are much better. Being able to read food labels when I shop is why I ended up getting progressive lenses for my glasses this time around - not that I've read any labels yet! I'll have to get better at that... though reading your posts is almost as good.

MizT, I had forgotten that! When Ebob was in Primary School in CA they had a no hat rule. I thought it was the dumbest rule ever. Apparently I could have requested and exemption and fought for her right to wear a hat. I decided not to bother as with no other kids wearing them she would just take if off as soon as I turned my back.

Nola, I love fish and chips, though I feel yucky after eating them too. Some days you've just got to ignore the yuck to have the pleasure!

I read the labels, got it down to a fine art. Calories per serving, and calories from fat is often as far as I have to read. Picked up an unfamiliar brand of franks, hot dogs, and took a look. Calories per serving (0ne hotdog) 180 calories, calories from fat 150. Not much room for anything else in there was there???
Heck, Al can scan a list of ingredients so fast and put something back when he sees the Hydrogenated vegetable oil, he has learned that is a big no no. It is harder to get him to look at the grams of total fat and the serving size. sometimes he will being me something and say, see, only 2 grams of fat per serving, and no trans fats, I can have these, right? Chips maybe and serving size is 4 chips, servings per bag is 20. NOPE, you know you will not eat 4 chips! You would eat half a bag!! Half a bag would be 20 grams of fat. He then makes that little boy face and puts them back.

I do not get that yuck feeling from fried fish or chips, on the occasions I do eat them, if I shake on a LOT of vinegar. If I do not, I will be very YUUUUCCCKKK after.

Our schools also have a no hat policy. It is because hats can signify gang affiliation. Scarves are not allowed either.

Younger boy wears uniform to school. Navy or Khaki bottom and red, white or blue shirt with a collar. It does not have to have a school logo on it. It is referred to as "a unified dress code" instead of a uniform. School I work at also has uniforms. Oldest son does not have to wear uniforms at his school. It is a school decision, voted in by 2/3 majority of parents. High school has to be voted on by students, no high school has uniforms.

Easy solution to that Tami - school hats. I find it incredibly irresponsible of the school districts to not search for solutions to 'gang' colours.

I agree. But for some reason the district has a no hat policy. I think they are allowed to wear hats during physical education. I remember Mitch bringing a hat to school at times.

Good morning lovely SA8 people. Happy birthday Gail and your daughter - do you both have a birthday on the same day - how cool! I wanted my son to be born on my birthday but he didn't arrive until 2 days after.
Suzy - totally agree - school hats, uniform - no trimming, cannot signify gang affiliation. This 'gang affiliation' scares me - are Aussie schools like that too??

Do you like my new avatar - the Cooktown Orchid, state flower of Queensland. Unfortunately this one is not home-grown.
More to say - CRAFT has got me.
Hi Tami.
Stella - so busy as usual, how do you manage it. Hope your Mom is feeling better soon.
MizT - if you need to wear a hat, do so - I love the idea of being considered different or even eccentric.
June - have fun at the RE Show. Look after your money and camera there. I know what it's like, when I'm with my kids and grandies, I always seem to pay. I don't think they expect it, I just enjoy doing it.
Nola - yes we eat lots of fish too, so readily available and local.
Rolanda (from yesterday) - glad your Mum is enjoying her trip.

Good Morning SA8.
'Puter will be in for a while before they can even look at,
apparently everyone has put their computers in over the school holidays for repairs, so won't be around much.
Had a great time out on the boat, although Brissy was wet most of the time, we had good weather over on the island.
Cyn it is Hannah's birthday tommorow.
Happy Birthday Dag!

I have always worn hats. I wore one in school despite the dress code and uniforms. I was so good at finding loopholes in the dress code, and they had to change it so many times because of me, that I think they just gave up on the hat thing.

Why does that not surprise me Heidi, always been the tear away.
How is Lady and Lucky? Bella has a wonderful time on the boat and two walks a day, everyone always smiles when they see my boat dog, everyone else has little dogs, although there was one boarder collie who howled like a wolf everytime they went ashore without her.
