No Gail, it's not you. When I had the Charger, took it in and told them what needed to be done. They called me and gave me a price. Thought it was reasonable. Got there and the price had tripled. Didn't pay it. Told them the price I was quoted and would not pay a penny more.

No, it's not just you. I taught my present mechanic several years ago. He was h*** in school, but he can fix a car. His attitude has changed and he's really nice now. But I have experienced what you're talking about. It doesn't take testosterone to tell that a car is making a noise, running funny or won't start.

Jenni, when the light comes on. Shut the car off, remove the gas cap then put it back on. If the gas cap is not on right, the light will come on. It usually takes about 3 cold starts for it not to come on again.

just been reading the posts about cars/mechanics and I'd have to agree that most machanics I've had to deal with have treated me as though I'm an idiot, just because I'm female. Don't have a car now - use a bike to get around.

I have a Jeep now, always wanted one. Well, I've gotten that out of my system. I'll never have another Chrysler product.

Hubby won't even make the appointment for either of ours. The last time, was told that we would get a 10% discount if I brought in a certain coupon. Showed up and was told that we had to apply for the GM credit card. Told them that I didn't want their card and wasn't told that over the phone. We got the discount anyway. Hubby calls it the b*tchy people discount.

Is it men or just mechanics cos my H tends to be a bit the same like whenever he's with me in the car and I use the boot(luggage compartment, not sure what you all call it!) he always asks me have you got the keys. Like I'm so stupid every other time I drive without him! How do I manage?

emm petrol is around AU$1.35ish I think. I never look just if I need it I have to get it no matter what the cost

We had a price hike here about year and a half ago, it was under a dollar then skyrocketed to about what it is now. That hurt a lot of pockets here

2 weeks ago (Memorial Day weekend) it got up to $3.499 here. Someone is getting rich and it isn't me.

I had a GM truck and after two years the paint started popping off in sheets. I went to the dealer, and after considerable time they told me that GM had authorized that the flat surfaces (top, hood and tail gate) be painted under warranty. The guy acted like he thought that was great, but what I was envisioning wasn't great. I just stood there and he noted I didn't look happy. I told him that I was undecided. I knew GM hadn't seen the truck and was going on his report. I told him I couldn't decide whether to call Ralph Nader or Action 9 in Charlotte first. GM painted the whole truck.

I just find it so rude that something that cost you a years wages starts falling apart and you would think you were asking the manu/dealer to chop their leg off! Oooo, its soooo irritating. I canfeel myself bashing the keys harder as I go

Ruby, had a Chevy conversion van with the same problem. Was told it was because the government made them take the lead out of the paint and they were having trouble with the new formulas.

Why bother Ruby. Its just all so wrong. These are the things that get up my H's nose, He almost knows too much, from the internet of course. The reality is we have to change the way WE live, not mankind, not in the future. Now. The price of gas is going to be irrelevant in 20 because there wont be any. Back in '72, my dad was talking to a guy who said his new Ford was getting 60 MPG and was wondering what was wrong with it. Dad told him nothing. The guy ended up taking it back to the dealership and telling them. They promptly replaced the carburator and told him that the first was a prototype. Then he complained that he was only getting 23 MPG. Dad asked him if he was happy.
