Four and a half hours and no posts? where is everyone?

It is 3 pm, and our loverly 55 degrees this morning has climbed to 85. Again very low humidity and a nice breeze, but sun is now broadside to the front of the house, and it is really heating up in here. Time to close my windows and AC the house for a few hours.

Al's second shirt is more than half finished, a good start for today. I will probably finish it up in the morning. I added a carpenters pencil pocket to this one, might go back and do the same for others. it is really just a seamed off section of his left chest pocket, just the size to slip in the pencil. when I asked him about it (saw this on another shirt) he did say his pencil would fall out if he had to bend over. Problem solved, now.

HI NOLA, it was you that gave me a hand up and over the top hehe. Thanks, I think.

Sewing report is above, I am happy with how it is coming along. I am not the speedy seamstress I once was, but I have learned to stop fore I get achey, rest, then go back. I actually get more done that way.

I'm getting excited about the finches. They have been brooding their eggs (only 2 of them) for over a week now. Incubation is 2 weeks. So I might have baby finches in a few days.

Morning all!

They shall not grow old
As we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn
With the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them

LEST WE FORGET

(Hope I got that right)

They're born naked and helpless, and have these reflective nodules on the corners of the mouth, so parents have a target when feeding them. They won't get their adult colors until they're 6 to 8 months old.

Thats good Heidi.
The baby finches must be REALLY small when they hatch as the adult birds are tiny.It would be nice for you to get a boy and girl.

It's Child Protection Training Heidi. I have to do it before going into a school and because I'm studying via distance, everything is a paper.

Suzy, hope you find this paper easier than the last. Perhaps just by doing them they get easier as you go. Good Luck anyway.

Heidi, we would like proud Mother photos when the babies get here! In fact, I think a long time ago, while you had mono, you said you would get photos of a lot of your animals on the farm and share, PLEASE? Would love to see them.

Everyone! I just have a minute to say Hello, but it's so exciting to be able to do that during daylight hours - not yet 4:00 p.m. I hope to be back later and read some comments.

I know.... I'm sorry.... haven't done it yet.
The baby finches get baby feathers at around 3 1/2 weeks old. They're a plain olive color, so they're not easily visible to predators.

Good morning fellow SA8ers.

Home from the dawn service, another beautiful yet solemn occasion. I am not sure that our dear RSL president, Bob, will see too many more Anzac Days. He does a sterling job but age is wearying him.

I have never been to a dawn service - we usually go to the later one, but baseball today. Minutes silence before every game.

It was a great turn-out this morning. The numbers swell every year. I would say there had to be at least a hundred there. The car next to mine parked at the same time and out of it came three young adults, around twentyish I think, one with dreadlocks and all with piercings, all rugged up ready for the service. Kids hey, they do us proud. They certainly made my heart swell.
There were many family groups with very young children, all there to honour our Anzacs. It makes me think there is hope for man yet.

Although it may not be the appropriate thing to say, "Happy Anzac Day." Keeping the fallen in your thoughts is always a good thing. They should never be forgotten.

Suzy, do go sometime. It really tugs the heartstrings.
The local march today is at 10.45. It is only a short walk, from the primary school to the memorial. Not sure how many will be marching. Bob walks with a frame and the other old digger is on crutches, so I hope they will be in a car this year. I have never gone to the local march, but I think I might this year.

Gday Suzanne, I am well thanks. How about yourself?

I used to go to the march in Adelaide back in the day when my Mum would march. She served in the WAAFS as a signalwoman. I have a great photo of her from one march. I called out 'MUM' to get her to see me and look my way, but then I realised that every one of the women marching was probably a mum!
So I called out 'MOLLIE', and she looked straight at me. The photo has her looking at me, smiling and waving. God I miss her.
I laid three roses at the memorial this morning, one for my mother, one for Dad and one for a friend, ex-serviceman, who is going through some major health issues at the moment.

I will be back in a little while. I had a quick strong coffee this morning at 5.30 and I am in dire need of another and a piece of toast to go with it.
The RSL always puts on a brekky for all, but I did not stay this morning. It's a tiny little branch and it would have been jam-packed in there today.

Gail, I've heard that the younger people are more supportive of Anzac day than our generation. Amazing. The kids marched with their school in Primary School, but it seems to only be the student council that marches in High School. I marched when I was a marching girl (I admit it, I was a marching girl). One of my good friends was in the navy and is now a navy reserve and goes to the dawn service every year. I might ask her to take me next year.

Most Australians don't know either MizT, and it has changed over the years. When I did it, teams of 10 girls (plus reserves) competed in precision routines. No batons or fancy stuff. At the beginning of the competition they even checked our boots for scuff marks and you were penalised for them! There were discs on the ground and the leader had the hit them on exactly the right step (constant counting!!) or penalised again. Lines perfectly straight, arms raised to just the right level, hands held in just the right way.... We used to practice at least twice a week and compete in Sydney (back then that was 3 hours away) about 3 times a month.

OK, perhaps the closest we could call them would be a drill team. those often did have fake rifles if it were males. sounds like good discipline. Now were you fully covered or wearing the short costumes like out baton twirlers?

White boots Suzy?
I know exactly what a marching girl is, one of my sisters was one.
I am very surprised you don't know what it is MizT, it was a most American thing, I thought. Very big in the late sixties, early seventies, then I suppose calisthenics took over.

Yep, white boots Gail. They are still marching Gail, but it's not the same. There was an exhibition day in Sydney last week, at Homebush I think, (I think it was last week, I heard about it after it happened)

No rifles or anything like that MizT. And fully covered with hot jackets and pleated skirts. I wonder if I have a photo somewhere. Don't know if I'd put it up if I did - ringlets! Natural ones, a real bugger.

Was just thinking, I probably joined in 1973 and marched for about 4 years.
