IH is a great shot.... it's the one thing he does REALLY well. He's won all sorts of trophies for marksmanship..... but..... he doesn't have the patience to sit and wait for the predators, and he falls asleep at the drop of a hat.... any hat. He regularly falls asleep when he's behind the wheel of a car, or talking, or both.

Can't shoot many coyotes if you are asleep. I know what you mean about the coy-dog killing for fun. when we lived on the farm a few years ago, there was a dog that started hunting, killing calves. They would be found dead but not eaten, maybe a few bites gone is all, This dog was someone's pet, they let him run loose. Well he could not be contained in a fence, they did put him in one, but he would get out. Dog recruited himself a pack, and they reeked havoc for the entire calving season. It took a group of cattlemen sitting out in pastures with guns to get rid of him. The dog owner was ready to shoot the cattleman that shot him, but too many men told of seeing that dog attacking or chasing cattle.

It's fun watching the parents brood the eggs, too. They trade off about every hour, except at night when they both brood them together. Now if they could only teach humans to share the work evenly.

How are you feeling today Heidi? I hope you are feeling better and that you catch/kill that coy-dog. I agree with teaching humans to work together.

We have a lot of pigeons nest here and have noticed the parents swap places around dusk every night.
The babies never make a noise and keep very still if anything is close.

After a dull overcast day yesterday, the water in our new heater is only at about 98F (36C) - I used our meat thermometer to check. I was going to turn on the electric back up for a while, but decided to see what it's like tonight after heating today. That should give us an idea of how it will go during winter. This is all very exciting for me, which just goes to show I lead a very boring life.

Morning Nola, I've just got the other computer searching for something I did a couple of years ago because it doesn't look like they've updated one of the DET documents since then. All I have to do this time is pick out some essential points and summarise - just can't get myself going on it.

SUZY, should I get out my cattle prod? that might get you going in the right direction on that paper. the longer you put it off, the heavier it hangs over your head. Get with it girl, work on it a bit morning and afternoon, with plenty of chat time in between, and it will get done!

Hi MizT, I reallly wanted to get it sent off by today, but it will probably be tomorrow at the earliest now. I will have to hand over this computer to the younguns so it doesn't distract me! Ebob has to finish some homework today so she can go for her learner's permit tomorrow and go visiting friends on Tuesday ready for back to school on Wednesday. She'll probably need google to get it done...

Nola you did figure it, clip strings, cut thread ends at seams. I get the end of seam ones clipped as i sew, but the ones at the start of a seam are still hanging on. I suppose 'string' is an old southern word for thread, but I have heard it all my life. Mom would cc all me over, you have a string hanging there, let me get it. STring was also light cord, used to tie up packages in paper, before scotch tape and twist ties. String was saved, wound on a ball and put into a drawer. If the first piece off the ball of string was not long enough, you tied it onto the second and used it. Nothing wrong with a good honest knot.

I should have done the sloshy thing today, was a lovely day to hang clothes on the line. Nice breeze, warm temps, low humidity, they would have dried nicely.

I have never had a clothesline at my house! I remember my grandma having one and my mom too. The fresh air makes the clothes smell nice.

I still haven't done the sloshy thing as I have to go into bedrooms to get the things to put in it, and I'm the only one awake!

I think it's environmentally responsible too Suzy, the problem is trying to convince the hubby (and keep the dog away from the line, she stays outside unless it's cold/snowing). She has to stay outside, we have 2 indoor cats who will not let her in their space under ANY circumstances!!

Does your dog attack clothes? We have outside dogs. Possibly it is the different type of clothes lines. We have a good old hills hoist so the clothes are up high.
With snow, unless you have a room that you can hang clothes all over it, the line wouldn't do you much good in winter. Having said that, I have a very small dryer (designed for 'emergencies' only) so my house can have clothes hanging from all sorts of doorways in rainy weather!! That's always when the visitors come...

Don't know if she would attack the clothes, she is a bit weird with some of her attitude. We know for a fact she doesn't like the sound of diesel engines. Because she was a rescue, I would be hesitant to do that wtih the clothesline. Yeah, the line would not be a good idea in winter (unless I wanted frozen laundry!!)
The only time of year the clothesline would make sense is summer here (which is from June-September--we've had snow late in the spring--end of May/beginning of June)

Brrrrr.... I prefer warmer weather myself! Though I love to visit cold areas. I could never work out why there weren't any clothes lines in CA, perfect weather for it year round. I later found out that many areas have laws against them!!

That's true. It's not for any reason except people there think they are an eyesore. We rented a house from a friend of my hubby's after the 1994 earthquake. There was a clothesline there, but I hardly ever used it.
