MizTricia: Glad to hear you have your computer running. Do you have surge protectors on them? Darrell & I have a special surge protector on both of our computers that save everything if the power goes out (which happens a LOT here in BFE Utah! Darrell got them about a year or so ago from the Base Exchage at Hill AFB here. We've also had lightning issues & they work well...

MizT... when the tornado went right over me, there was hail immediately beforehand. So it's not just when the tornado is directly to the south. But it is the most terrifying thing I've ever experienced. The sky was a greenish brown or brownish green.... very sickly looking. We had 3 tornadoes in the immediate neighborhood in a half hour period. The one that destroyed Magnolia was 1/2 mile wide, so it did not look like the typical cone shaped twister.

Heidi: sounds like you get a lot of bad weather there...I'm just sick of the snow after 5 years in Utah. We're looking to move to Washington (state--SIL lives there) within the next few years. Darrell's job (works for gov't) will be done by about 2012...Trying to wait till the market gets better before we put this house up.

Not here as usual, but you knew that already! Just had to turn the pooter on to look up flight itineraries for next weekend. My sister and I are flying to Adelaide to celebrate my brother's 50th. My father wanted to know the arrival details because he will be picking us up, bless his cotton socks.
Not catching up on the reading though, just wanted to say hi.

Good evening all. Just stopping in for a minute. I have krow to do on the pooter.
Suzy, I was up at 4:30 this morning to get Mitchell to school. He had to be there at 6:00am to get on a bus for a field trip. He is touring Williamsburg, VA and Washington DC. He will be home Saturday. After the bus left, I went out for breakfast and then to krow. I will be going to bed early tonight.

I didn't give you many details, Suzy. When the tornado arrived, there was about 30 seconds of sheet rain, accompanied by high winds... then 30 seconds of hail added to it.... then, quite suddenly the sound of an express train going over the top of me. I had gone out to the barn to bottle feed some calves, and when the train sound started, I curled up in a ball among the calves. After it had passed, I stepped out of the barn and looked around. The sky to the west was sickly green/brown, and I saw what looked like a big blackish brown mass descend on Magnolia. I went into the house and the phone was ringing. It was some neighbors asking if I was all right. They said that they looked out their door and saw a funnel cloud heading right at the barn I was in.... when it got to the barn, it took to the air and jumped over the barn, then headed east. It ended up taking out a dozen homes east of us. The one I saw hit Magnolia was half a mile wide, and destroyed over 500 homes and farms, and killed numerous pets, and 100 cows. A third one hit about the same time a few miles north, but did no serious damage.

Heidi, I have been through a hurricane but never a tornado. At least with a hurricane you get a few days warning to protect your house. There is no warning with tornado. That sounds like a real scary experience.

Hi All,
Passing through as I do the brain workout(puzzle solving). I do hope you all have a great day/night.
Bean, I'd love to come to your Halloween party, but am just unable to come up with a way to transport myself there...if I figure out a way...i.e. hitting the lottery, I'll be there with bells on.....at least I can dream can't I?
MzT and Heidi, I've been complaining about spending seven straight rainy, damp, cloudy and raw days without the sun....I was promised by those who study the weather that today I would at least be able to peek at the sun....but no sun rays shined in my area, much to my dismay....then I read about your contacts with tornadoes......and I was comforted that at least I didn't have to have those scary experiences...it served to remind me to be thankful that my weather was not as severe...thanks for the reminder...enjoy what you have and don't worry about what you can't control...leave that up to GOD! I do need to be reminded sometimes....man can only do so much....so I can now rest easy and be grateful as I now listen to the falling rain, that It could be worse....so I'm no longer complaining...just hoping that it will be dry and sunny soon....Peace!

Hello, All! I just have a few minutes, so will only glance through comments. MizT, I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your computers. Bless that hubby of yours for getting you back on line quickly! And what a description of a tornado! Yep, been there, done that, and it's very accurate!

Hi, Suzanne, Heidi, Gail, Tami, Suzy, Mamacita, Brenda, June, MizT, and all others I have missed!

Now that I've read this page, I see Heidi has a few more descriptive words for the tornado experience. The power of Mother Nature is awesome and frightening!

Mamacita, it is always a joy to read your posts! You have such a way with words!

A massive thunderboomer has just passed so I'm finally able to feed the dogs. A bunch of them are terrified of storms and won't eat while they're going on.

Good afternoon lovely SA8 people. Looks like I've missed a chatty day about tornados, thunderstorms and computer problems - not good for those affected - MizT and Heidi. I hate the idea of so little warning of a tornado.
Had a bit of a teary day today, went with my sister and daughter to visit Dad's memorial - 3 years today since he passed away. We left him a rose each and had a nostaglic chat about him. Then we visited my sister's best friend's grave and my former sister-in-law's grave (my kid's Aunt) before we fininshed the day with some retail therapy and a nice lunch. Have some candles lit for Dad now.
Mother's Day High Tea tomorrow with Mum at her care facility again with my sister and my aunt.
Rest in Peace, Dad.

Oh yes, we did remember the good times, Broni.
I don't know whether you were there on Sunday when Lynne and I were saying about making the most out of our time with our grandies because when they're teenagers, they won't want to know us. I recounted the story about when my kids were at high school and my parents would go to pick them up because I was working late, they'd say to me - 'Can you get Granddad to park around the corner?', which I never did. And when they'd get into his car, they'd slide down the seat so their friends could not see them.
Today my daughter said - 'I'd be soooo happy to get back into Granddad's car, just once more'.

Just received this joke and thought it was too funny (I hope it doesn't offend)-

It's Tough Getting Old

A senior citizen goes in for his yearly physical with his wife tagging along.

When the doctor enters the examination room he says,

"I will need a Urine sample, a stool sample, and a sperm sample."

The man, being hard of hearing, turns to his wife and asks,

"What did He say?"

The wife yells back to him,

"GIVE HIM YOUR UNDERWEAR!"

Maen Sudokuland!

I brought sunshine for folks like me who have almost forgotten what it is like. Woke to another rain, woke in the night to another thunder bumper. But no tornadoes chasing me, so I shall follow Mama's lead and be thankful.

Suzy, of course Ally can take my comments to school, that is why I posted them! Forgot to say, I was not much older than her when that big tornado hit our neighborhood. Mom had chased my bus from school, to get me off it and into safety fore tornado hit. I think I was 13 or 14 years old. Being that up close and personal has given me a healthy respect for tornadoes. That tornado left a swath several miles long through our neighborhood, but like Heidi's, it has gone back up to the cloud just before our house. It skipped about 2 blocks undamaged, then came down again past. Many friends from school and our church lost homes that day.
