JULI, I am up later than you were? Most unusual for me.

I am trying to read a 1400 page book in less than 2 weeks, and was not up to my quota of pages for today when bedtime came. Not easy reading, but fun reading. Very early Irish settlers to the Carolina region of USA, and a bit of Celtic magic thrown in, and herbal medicine and love stories aplenty. Seems this is one of a huge series, I must see if I can get the other books, and nope, this is not the first book. OH well.

Later everyone, and If I am not here as often this next week, I am tucked under a quilt (raining and damp here) in my recliner with a book!

Suzy - although I love being a mother and love my two to bits, I sometimes found that the worries outweighed the good bits especially while they were growing up. Being a Nanny has been 99% magic and only 1% worry and I just trust my kids and their partners that they will get it right. Those percentages will change greatly from when the first one turns 16 (less than 6 years to go) and he learns to drive!

I made a pact with myself that I wouldn't drop in to sudokuland until I had finished all my jobs and KROW for the day...and here I am with the list still incomplete. Should write a few things on the list that I have managed to do so I can actually cross something off!!! I have NO IDEA when I last posted here ..? since Friday? Have spent all weekend writing it seems and have spent all afternoon allowing myself to get distracted from what I should be doing...well...it is after 5pm ...businesses will now be closed so I can come here with a clear conscience....hmm...after I've brought the washing in....BRB...

Cyn, I have a 16 year old! Luckily she is a little distracted at the moment and hasn't learned her road rules... but one day soon the Learner's Permit will become as important as the distractions. I'll warn you so you can keep off the road if you're down this way....

An electric fence is going up tomorrow to keep the lawn mower where he is supposed to be. Let's hope it works.....

Already got my washing in, but have not flung food for the younguns... catch you later!

Whoops, forgot something, Bean, when my kids ask me for help with English (or Geography) I just look at them blankly and remind them that grammar was not considered important when I was at school so wasn't taught - do they need help with Math or Science????

My mother bought a computer! She has had it about a week. Today she told me she has played spider and has plugged her USB thingy into the side but can't see the photos. We had saved a bunch of her photos onto a thumb drive for her at Xmas. Today I stepped her through opening the files on it. How exciting!!

Tami, I'm a bit late, but for my 2c worth, I enjoyed the TOPPs contest when I first arrived in SA6, but the novelty wore off quickly. Now I just enjoy being here. I still have Rocket and my ladder in store should I need them though.

Ethan has had a shocking cough, it has not got any better in the last 3 weeks. I am finally taking him to the docs about it this Friday after school. It does not help he continues to go bodyboarding. That's a 15 year old boy, nearly 16 for you.

Oh Susan don't you just love it? Mine is a drama queen alright. Lol ehehhe
And I thought Humpty Dumpty was just a rhyme.
Nursery Rhyme & History

The imagery of Humpty Dumpty
Humpty Dumpty was a colloquial term used in fifteenth century England describing someone who was obese. This has given rise to various, but inaccurate, theories surrounding the identity of Humpty Dumpty. The image of Humpty Dumpty was made famous by the illustrations included in the 'Alice through the looking glass' novel by Lewis Carroll. However, Humpty Dumpty was not a person pilloried in the famous rhyme!

The History and Origins of the Rhyme
Humpty Dumpty was in fact believed to be a large cannon! It was used during the English Civil War ( 1642 - 1649) in the Siege of Colchester (13 Jun 1648 - 27 Aug 1648). Colchester was strongly fortified by the Royalists and was laid to siege by the Parliamentarians (Roundheads). In 1648 the town of Colchester was a walled town with a castle and several churches and was protected by the city wall. Standing immediately adjacent the city wall, was St Mary's Church. A huge cannon, colloquially called Humpty Dumpty, was strategically placed on the wall next to St Mary's Church. The historical events detailing the siege of Colchester are well documented - references to the cannon ( Humpty Dumpty) are as follows:

June 15th 1648 - St Mary's Church is fortified and a large cannon is placed on the roof which was fired by ‘One-Eyed Jack Thompson'

July 14th / July 15th 1648 - The Royalist fort within the walls at St Mary's church is blown to pieces and their main cannon battery ( Humpty Dumpty) is destroyed.

August 28th 1648 - The Royalists lay down their arms, open the gates of Colchester and surrender to the Parliamentarians

A shot from a Parliamentary cannon succeeded in damaging the wall beneath Humpty Dumpty which caused the cannon to tumble to the ground. The Royalists, or Cavaliers, 'all the King's men' attempted to raise Humpty Dumpty on to another part of the wall. However, because the cannon , or Humpty Dumpty, was so heavy ' All the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Humpty together again!' This had a drastic consequence for the Royalists as the strategically important town of Colchester fell to the Parliamentarians after a siege lasting eleven weeks. Earliest traceable publication 1810.
A Roundhead ( Parliamentarian) was so called from the close-cropped hair of the Puritans

The word Cavalier is derived from the French word Chevalier meaning a military man serving on horseback - a knight.

Humpty Dumpty poem

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses, And all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again!

Alternative Words...

Humpty dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty dumpty had a great fall;
Threescore men and threescore more,
Could not place Humpty as he was before.
