Hi everyone! Back for a few minutes - just finished watching Biggest Loser and So You Think You Can Dance (yeah, I know, high class stuff!) Quite fitting today, I guess, as we just signed up at the new gym. Taking a chance, maybe - the reason I gave up last time was because the machines kept bringing me out in rashes (pressure, stress, etc!) I'm so much better now, but I still take anti-histamines quite often. Suzy, I really hope your itches are just a passing thing! I take Telfast for mine, but I don't need it very often now.
It was great tripping down memory lane with Bean - we seem to have been around the same places, maybe at the same time? Bean, I'm trying to remember the Save the Earth house - it seems vaguely familiar, but I'm not sure. I went on Google Earth and actually found the house I lived in after I moved out of college - shared it with a whole bunch of crazy, scuba-diving Uni students - great times were had! :)
I realised some time later, that I didn't have a single photo of the house, so it's pretty weird to see it on the computer! (My room was upstairs, overlooking the street)

I started that post some hours ago, but got distracted, playing with the computer - it's a great little time-waster! Off to bed now, so Goodnight friends! :)

Thanks Nola. We were lucky that Super AMart provided free delivery to flood affected residents savings us hundreds, but probably a very good business decision for them. Unfortunately most of the furniture came unassembled in boxes so we have heaps to do still. We nearly have the rock gardens replanted as well....getting there....had no idea it would carry on this long.

My university memories...too much cheap alcohol...Summer Wine I think...brussels sprouts so often for campus food that I've never been able to eat them since...and chicken, banana and pineapple fritters for a meal....ugh...and absolutely no security on campus...unlocked doors to buildings ...now Son#1 is there ...24/7 security, panic buttons, key entry only

Triplet lambs are very common in my sheep, but rare for a first-time mother. The first-timers usually have singles, or occationally twins.
We even have quads regularly!
Lucky should be finishing his brekkie now, so I've gotta let him out of his crate. BRB

Blessed morning SA8ers!
It's trying to snow here, but for once I'm hoping it doesn't - don't want my flowering bulbs, peach and cherry trees harmed.
June - have fun today...saw some film footage on Planet Earth of Great White Sharks and it's enough to keep me out of the water!

Brenda - I'm so thrilled you are using a re-homing center to extend your family...for my thoughts, it's the only way to go. Thanks for helping to lower the number of sweet animals put sleep.
Judy - I LOVE "So You Think You Can Dance"!!!
Our season doesn't start until after American Idol has finished. My 14 year old niece is a dancer and we chat about who to vote for.
Hope your venture into the gym works out better for you this time around.

Good morning all. Just a quick hello before I go pick up the boys from Sunday school and then run some errands. I will be back later. Like the trick about reheating pizza. Will have to try it if I ever have leftovers.

We are finally back. After going to look for a dog, to having to come back to get Callie to see if they would get on and deciding to go for it. The above link is the dog we have chosen.
she is rather over weight but we will sort that out. Not much is known about her as she was a stray.
The dog trust will be contacting our vet to get a reference and if that is acceptable we will be picking her up on Wednesday morning. Oh and we will be changing her name, she doesn't respond to Thora so we have to decide what her name is going to be.

Brenda.... she's lovely! I'm glad you chose a dog needing a new home.
My cousin and his family visited here a few years ago with their Airedale. Nala and one of my Collies, Dennis, became close friends. After they went home, Nala missed Dennis so much that they decided to get her a companion. They went to the Humane Society shelter with Nala, and let her select a friend. She picked a great collie/ lab mix that looked a little like Dennis. Boris is HER pet. He's also incredible with children, and one of the funniest dogs I've ever met. There are some wonderful dogs out there that just need the right home.

There are so many dogs being abandoned since the recession and we have had our 'baby' in Callie we thought that a rescue dog would be good. We saw her photo on the internet but I thought she would have been taken by the time we got there. She wasn't in her room when we first looked, but found outt hat she was just out on a walk. There were a few dogs we might have considered if she hadn't been available.
Fortunately the place we got her from never has dogs put down unless there is a health problem which cannot be sorted out, difficult dogs go to a centre to have problems sorted out and then are put into fosterhomes until they can be re-homed.
She has been neutered, has a micro chip, will have a full vets check, innoculations, worming and flea treatment before we pick her up. They give her a new collar and lead, a bag of food and other bits and pieces. All they ask is a donation of £75, which I think is a fairly low amount. We will get more involved with the Trust to help support their aims.

Morning all!
Lost a post, now I have to see if I can remember what I said...
Brenda, Indi is gorgeous!
Susan, I hate assembling furniture too. Don't forget to post a pic of the rock garden when it's finished.
Nola, 15 minutes is perfect.
Susan, I don't think I could have made it through Uni if I'd lived on campus! Too much fun! I shared a flat with people from my home town. I think the man downstairs beat his wife and daughter. If I lived there now I would call the police, back then I just felt sad and scared for them.

Enough excitement for today! My adrenaline is pumping still.
I was sitting here looking at Becky's new pup (cute, Becky) and I suddenly smelled a lot of smoke. It smelled like leaves and/or wood burning, decided I should get out and check. Second property away, behind a neighbors house, there was a lot of smoke and I could see some flames in the underbrush of the pine woods there.
Al called the neighbor, got him on his cell phone, but he was not home! So, not knowing what was going on, but seeing smoke and seeing flames, I called 911. I think our neighbor Jim atthe same time phoned his son and SonIL who live nearby, I saw them crossing the back yard with brooms, rakes and water hose before the fire department got here. It is windy today, it is still low humidity, But luckily not as low as last week. Every time the wind would gust, a billow of smoke, then it would dissipate once wind died down.
It actually took longer for our fire department to get here than for them to put out the fire once they arrived. I hope they do not get upset that the young men had the fire almost out by the time they got there hehehe, but I imagine they had rather be called out for a small fire, early, than a grass fire that has spread to cover a large area. I hope so at least. What you think Vici?
OK it was not a MAJOR fire, did not get into the trees just the dead winter vegetation under the trees, but hey, fire is fire in my book! And the wind was bowing toward our property.

Around here, if you have a brush fire, you have to notify the fire department in advance, and be with the fire the entire time it's burning. It has to be at least 150 feet from trees and buildings. If you don't comply, it's a BIG fine.

Suzy, it was a bit stressful, yes. I have not found out how it started yet, but neighbor will phone again with details once he gets home. He did say something about a can exploded, I think he meant in a trash fire, next door perhaps? People here do burn their garbage.
I had smelled trash burning a bit before when I came back from shopping in the freezer
. Trash burning smells different, almost like BBQ fire, you smell the food charring. Well, at least I can smell the difference, I have a keen sense of smell. Heck, I can smell water getting hot.
Now when the wind blows, I smell wet burned vegetation. Stinks, but comforting at the same time.

You did the correct thing MizT that fire could have gotten out of hand so quickly.
While we were out on Saturday the road we wanted to go down was closed because of a fire at a Chinese Restaurant. There was 7 fire tenders in attendance and 50 firemen. The owners don't know how it started but it looks like the whole place will have to be pulled down and rebuilt.

Just stopping in for a minute. For a day off, I have done a lot of krow. I had to do the weekly shopping, run several other errands, grade a stack of math homework and tutor a neighbor in math. I am tired and I am not done yet. Also had to fling food.

They are not only not extinct, but they're raised on ranches for meat. Bison is the correct name for the American Buffalo.
