DOWNER ALERT: DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE SOMETHING SAD!
When I checked my email today, I saw my cousin's email address and was surprised, as an email I had sent to her about 2 weeks ago came back as "undeliverable." The email was from my cousin's husband, telling me that she died on November 28, visitation was on Dec.2, and her funeral was on Dec. 3. He included a website where I could read her obituary. I went to the site and was reading when I came to the section about those who predeceased her: her mother in '97, her sister in '04 (which, of course, I knew) . . . and her father-in-law on November 27, 2008. So Mike lost his father on Thanksgiving and his wife the next day.
My cousin's Dad was my Mom's youngest sibling, only brother, and last remaining of the siblings. He has Alzheimer's. His wife and now both daughters have died of cancer, both daughters while in their early 50's. All he has left is 2 sons (and you know how most men are about contacting family members) and his grandchildren. I'm just so thankful that Mike found my email address and let me know. I have spent several hours today emailing and calling various relatives to let them know. We are all in shock. I'm a little numb, but have done most of my crying and know there's nothing I can do to help the family. It is so sad that it seems we will not have much contact with his sons, and they are the last of the line carrying the name.
This is just further reminder that we all must let a trusted person or persons know names and phone numbers of people who should be notified if anything happens to us.

Hi friends.
Had a great time today with Elsie. She was with a friend and the three of us got on like a house on fire!
Elsie and I spoke about our time meeting up with Rena and Amber, and then, after the cuppa, we got ourselves some culture! Went to the Art Gallery. Surprised we weren't ejected though, it seemed like we all had the same sense of humour and just took the micky out of most of the paintings! We actually did enjoy ourselves and appreciate the art, but if you can't have a laugh, it aint worth being here.
Should be a photo on Elsie's page (with a skinny fella) maybe tomorrow.

Gail, I'm glad you had a wongerful time with Elsie and her friend. It sounds like a lot of fun at the art gallery!
I had breakfast this morning with 3 friends from high school who now live somewhat nearby. A fourth friend who was going to join us was delayed in a meeting. We try to meet every month or 2.
I'm sorry that you received some terribly sad news today. Is there anything any of us can do?

Julie, very sad news.
Gail would not have missed that post, I bet your voices were echoing thru the Gallery. So what is your sad news, might as well get it out.
Instead of dragging things out JD's mum passed away last year on this Friday.
Apologies to those who think this may be a little insensitive.

Not insensitive, Broni. A person can handle just so much sadness. This has been a rough season.
What did happen, Gail?

Thank you Julie, how sweet.
Long story coming up, want to say it and get it out in one go.
I was on my way home on the train from the meet when I got a call from a friend back in Sth Aus asking if I knew a woman from the same town I used to live in. I do, her boys and my three oldest went through primary school together, a tiny school with 70 kids. We ALL knew each other.
Sadly, her youngest son, the same age as my Beth (19), passed away last Thursday, due to a heart condition he had.
She just happened to be reading the obits and said the name jumped out at her, thinking she remembered that the mother and I had been friends.
Hit me like a sledgehammer. I knew this kid before he even started school.

It sure has. Got to say though, I got a good chuckle out of today's emails. The ode to boo boos gave me real chuckle and can we print out that letter and just sign it with our own name...please?
Want to say thank you to you all for just being here. This place is great.

You know what Dag, it scares me the way we think so alike.I read your 'get it out' post and they were the exact same thing I said to myself. And you know what else, I'm going to go out and check my vegie garden cos when you said it, that was exactly what I felt like doing.
Besides, due to water restrictions, I think that would be a good place to have a little 'reflection' time. Will include all who need hugs in my thoughts.
Back soon.

Gail I suspect that the 'ODE' is going to be added to so I wouldn't bother printing it until it has had its final update!!! Now if everybody would be more careful Suzy will be able to hang the quill out to dry....

I don't think any of us have developed hard or insensitive hearts. I think we just have seen enough life to know that it's not easy and it's not fair and "it is what it is," as a friend says. People are born and live for a time - maybe shorter or longer than the rest of us expect or prefer - then one die they die. The same happens to plants and animals. It's not cold-hearted or insensitive to realize this. Of course, this is much easier for me to say, as I am not mourning a parent, spouse or child at present. It also helps to have a belief in the "hereafter" or next life, if you believe in reincarnation.
Gail, I'm so sorry to hear of the young man's death. It is never easy.

MizT, your line "NO NO, no more burns allowed, I have made a rule!" had me rolling on the floor when I read it. It reminds me of something or someone, but I can't remember what / who.
Becky, I love your catch up. Thank you.
Suzy, the poem is great, but I don't think my headache was major enough to warrant inclusion. Now if I remember correctly, Broni has a nautical smiley - sailor girl - that would be great on you!
Heidi, I never ever want to be in your bad books.

I've just decided to change my email address. Because my usual email address reveals my surname, I was always hesitant about having it added to group emails. If you already have my email address, would you please replace it with this one, which I'm happy to have added to group emails. And if you didn't have my email address, you do now. susanqld@hotmail.com
