I thought it was single mum's not working getting parenting payments - which is in addition to family tax benefit. Are they called the same thing in different states? I'm not sure if they are federal or state. Why does it have to be so complicated??

I do know that I get some family tax benefit and have never been asked to register. BUT, I also do list some income, so that might be why.

Okay, the name changes probably happened while I was 'absent' from the country. I think it was called child endowment when my mother got it.

Bella would be lost without you! She should be classified as a dependent.

Back in from feeding. I'm having to monitor eggbid pretty closely. I have almost given up on 1 pair of pheasants,
the oldest ones. There are still 3 1/2 days of bidding left, and there are already 20 bids on them. They're up to $60 already. There are younger birds available, too, so I'll go after them.

Yes that is correct Rolanda, but I was dependant on hubby. But when he registered as he got put off I immediately come into the equation.
Yes Suzy, how well I know that too. I have been for many jobs where there was always one box I could not 'tick' so to speak and missed out on the job.

Now in regards to the Avon.
Most people will say oh that is classified as a hobby. You do not have to declare that.
All the people I know who do Avon, and some make a decent lot out of it, they do not declare it.
When I was in it 2 years ago I did not realise that and went to Centrelink and declared it even though what I was making was very paltry.
My allowance was adjusted accordingly.
This time around I am saying nothing.
For ever and a day hubby and I have done the right thing.
I hope to get a part time job and get on with it.
The whole Centrelink system is to my mind a nightmare and I do not really want anything to do with it.

Viv, now you have me worried that I will get a letter in the mail.... oh well, deal with it if it happens.
I haven't finished reading the news but I had better go or I'll never get through my list...
Knowing me I'll drop in though, so don't say rude things about me 'cause I will see them!

So I am now waiting for someone to ring me back from the employment agency. I have to inform them hubby has a job and hopefully she can give me a number to contact the guy at Centrelink.
It is very very humid here.
My Avon order goes in tomorrow night and I have had people ringing me wanting to order today.
Hubby has the car so will be waiting for him to return it at lunchtime.
I will now become his driver to get him to and from work but not wanting to do it to get him home and back for lunch as well.

Your benefits, in Aus, sound as complex as ours in the UK. I don't get to claim any unemployment benefit (called Job seekers allowance) as I have a pension income from my first husbands pension scheme. Even while I was working we could have claimed family tax benefit, but as we had enough money to manage on we never claimed anything. In my opinion the system is wrong here.

I would not worry too much Suzy.
As I said I was going along okay getting some FTB and being dependant on hubby.
The avon is certainly enough for me to do I can tell you.
It was only that he went to Centrelink that of course now they know all about me.
Anyhow it is done and I am in the system now at the employment agency.
Have a great day Suzy.

I am sure our system is as complex as yours Brenda.
As I said hubby and I always did everything by the book and we know plenty who do not.
It just does not feel fair sometimes, but that is the way it is.
The Avon feels like a job to me alright, but I do love it.
I
talking to people etc, and this helps.
I have accummulated some new customers this time around so am happy about that.

I could not believe some of the restrictions they were saying would happen if we did finally have to claim the unemployment after next march.
For instance, you cannot have over $810 in your combined accounts, mine and hubbies.
Not that we can save anyhow but really, it is just ridiculous.

Well some people make a career out of that type of selling.
One of my step daughters wanted to sell it many years ago, she thought it would be easy and that all her friends and our neighbours would jump at the chance to buy from her. Unfortunately this didn't happen and as she was under 16, I was the one who had to pay for brochures etc. She gave up after a couple of months

One last comment here and I will shut up about all this, I am now an expert on Industrial Relations Commission info.
When I was on to the commission about hubbies 5 weeks severence payout I also enquired about Ethans job. He is at the fish and chip shop part time as you all know.
They are supposed to supply his uniforms if they have the business logos on them.
Which his did. He is being paid the correct wage at least.
I know you commented Heidi that Ethan should have been doing all this himself, after all if he is old enough and responsible enough to work he should be able to approach his boss about this.
Most things I would agree with that statement Heidi but I felt it was my place to approach his boss about the uniforms.
She said yes I know I should have payed for them but I will not. I will not pay for 22 uniforms for the staff as they do not look after them.
Well this did not apply to me but that is beside the point. I said okay then, Ethan has paid you the $76 would you please write out a receipt and have all the appropriate information on it so if we can claim on his tax next year we will.
She has done that for me.
I said to the IRC guy what a crock !!! You make this law, no one adheres to it.
She has told them also that she will charge them half retail price if they make a mistake with the food and burn it etc.
That is definitely a no no said the IRC.
Anyhow as I said, I will now be quiet but thankyou for listening.

Viv that seems a very low amount you are allowed to have in accounts. Over here the amount is much higher, not exactly sure what it is but it is over £3000, which is over $7000 Aus

Back. Emptied the wheelbarrow, put the weeds in the bin and put the bin out (does anyone know if it's recycling week??), cleaned out and refilled the horses water trough, refilled quails water and seed and gave them some greenery...

Viv, that's crazy! That amount of money in the bank wouldn't help you if the car breaks down let alone a real emergency. I bet people stuff their matresses.
And its crazy that employers can get away with what Ethan's employer is getting away with.

Yes I agree Suzy. It is a crazy world we live in.
Trev took some of his money out of the Comm. Bank and the teller said everyone is taking out their money and doing exactly what you said. Stuffing it in their mattresses or hiding it somewhere. It is just so ridiculous. You work hard for over 20 years and you would like to keep some of the termination money but Centrelink knows exactly how much you got as you have to present this Separation Certificate as you call it. It does not matter if it is in the bank or not they know you got it and calculate from there. I learnt a hell of a lot last week that I did not know about.
Now look at the difference re the uniforms.
The Toyota place Trev worked at he would only pay half, Ethan's employer will not pay at all.
The job Trev started today,he is SUPPLYING them.
It is incredible and you can understand how I have been a tad upset about all this.
Sorry to dump it on all of you but it is good to get off my somewhat substantial chest. heheheheheh

Viv, I had to fill out one of those separation certificates for one of our guys, they even ask if you have been paid holiday pay during the year in lieu of taking holidays, they sure don't miss anything.
Money side I have a redraw facility on my home loan so would not have to worry about taking money out of my bank account, just draw on it when I need it.
Heidi loved your foot and mouth sign hehe!

The evil child is back again. I broke down all the smaller sized branches into fireplace size pieces and put them in the wood shed. I carried the big pieces out to the chop or chain saw up pile. I swept out the trailer. Now comes the evil bit.... I have been dreading that job so I am rewarding myself - with a cup of coffee and a packet of chocolate montes! Well, not the whole packet. I don't think....

If you were here I'd share them with you...
I saw a couple of girls who needed to chill out last night - or as their parents said 'don't get so emotional'.
I really felt for them though. There are plans to build a 'college' down here for kids with significant behavioural problems/delinquent children. The kids live in '6 separate living facilities' and go to school on the same grounds - which for some reason doesn't make it a boarding school. Sounds like a great idea for these kids - unless it is right next door to your house, which it will be for this family.

Just checked my list, christmas decs out of the pantec. Bugger. That's about 100m from the house and I will need the dolly to do it. There's only 14 boxes to collect.... It's also through a gate that the dogs and horses are restrained by. Will have to think this through... which means I might read a bit more news before I take it on!
