Last year was the first time in years our whole family has been in the same place at the same time - and it was an accident. Mum stays with us over christmas. Bros aren't talking to each other, but both came with their families to see her for christmas at my house. They didn't plan to come at the same time! Mum grabbed a camera and whispered quick, lets get a photo of the grandkids all together - it may never happen again!

was just thinking of all the happenings this year and I think I know what has happened--
while one nephew was in Iraq as a soldier,
another nephew went out with a girl the first was seeing before he went away, and that has caused a major rift, now it seems that sis and the father of the other nephew have issues...

The girl invoved went and emailed the nephew in Iraq of the date she had been on with his cousin,
not cool,

Depends on the resolution Liz. I'd send them cards and keep the door open, but spend your emotional energy on people who show you they care.

Probably a good thing my Dad isnt here,
as that would have upset him big time..
I know for sure if these two get into the same room there will be trouble, (the nephews I mean)
so maybe this is why we won't get together..

Well hubby is waiting to start his studying so I have to go.... Maybe he'll let me drop in during the day...

yep going to accept an invitation to go to a girl friends for Christmas dinner
and lunch at my sisters house
plenty to do on the day thats for sure..

Dizzy Lizzy, so sorry to hear about the issues that developed! It's understandable, in a way . . . It gets tricky keeping family together after the parents are gone or even after missing just one Christmas together.

I am one of 6. ALL of us have not been together for Christmas since my Dad died 3 1/2 years ago. One sis was determined it HAD to be Christmas Eve, even though family was more flexible before both parents were gone and another sis has church obligations on Christmas Eve. Another sibling who had lived back at home when finishing (and after) college just can't face the eventual nit-picking and squabbling that develop, so doesn't do a family Christmas. This year we can't join them at the motel where it's been held since Dad died, as it would prevent us from seeing our own children and grandchildren. So sis who insists it must be Christmas Eve is talking about taking her child to New York City for Christmas Eve and Christmas. One brother needs to be at the airport on Christmas to pick up one child, spouse & grandie. That leaves ONE brother and his wife - ALONE - as both of her parents are also gone. As I'm thinking about this, I've decided to make one more effort to coax family to try another day. Back later (after water aerobics and dinner).

Yes JUlie we have talked about doing something at a different time of the year aswell,
I suggested we try the family Christmas in July
and try and make this the tradition
but, no, like your family there is one that insists it has to be Christmas

Hubby has left to go to his exam so I get to be here!!!! For a little while at least. I bought tickets today to Scrooge - a local theatre production. Ally's singing teacher is in it. It ends on Saturday so tonight is the only time we can go...

Julie I hope something works out with your family. I know that it would be hard for me to arrange anything between now and christmas. My mother has always insisted on christmas day for the family get together and it has kind of stuck.
