Vici, I spotted your photo of a stately old gum tree on 'Tough' Sudoku today and I immediately thought "She's got it!"
Most Aussies don't notice the beauty of the individual gum trees because they are simply part of the background. I was one of them until my new English bride suddenly said "Look at that lovely tree!" as we were driving along. From then on I began to appreciate the elegance and individuality of the humble gum tree. Your photo is a classic example. It is a lovely photo.

Thanks Vici, we call them eucalyptus in Oz too - Gum Tree was easier to type. I love the smell of the bush, particularly after rain. I don't think I have a favourite - Snow Gums are strangely beautiful, Peppermint Gums I remember from my days in the Bush, Tasmanian Blue Gums are stately and have the biggest leaves I have ever seen and the Mountain Ash is a huge, stately tree which brings back fond memories of my Dad who grew up in the Victorian bush.
As I said, no favourites - and I am delighted that you appreciate the beauty of these wonderful, and much maligned trees.

Hi Vici,
Thanks for your nice comments on my photos. You mentioned the 'great' weather. Actually it was mixed. I couldn't any good pix the second day of the cruise for all the fog. And the day in Juneau was rainy.

The 'sky-walk' and zip line was not all that scary. Heights don't bother me if I'm secured in some way, in this case to a steel cable. Katelyn was fearless. Now with Barbara, it was a different matter. The first bridge had no hand holds and that bothered her. She was OK the rest of the way.

I wonder if all black and white cats are so pliable? I could do anything to my cat Tuxedo and he seemed to think it made him special! I have a photos of him wearing my glasses, with me pulling up on his whiskers to make him smile, with his Christmas collar of wooden cranberries and he looked lovely in about 27 strands of Mardi Gras beads!
