Suzy: I spent LOTS of time in Los Angeles. My aunt & uncle had a house there where I spent a bunch of summers as a teenager. Met & married my hubby there. Miss it a lot. Especially the public transportation which is non-existent here!!

Empty house! School is back!

Suzanne, there was public transportation in LA? I must have missed that... Drove the freeways - aaaahhhh. I used to take the 405 past LAX to get to work. When we moved to OC I was still taking the 405, but to Orange.

I have just realised how nice it is to be able to say that and know that the person I'm saying it to knows what I mean!

Suzy: YES! there was a great public transportation system in LA...now that I live in BFE, Utah, I have to rely on others to get me around. I don't drive due to mild Cerebral Palsy as a child. Got my license at 25, to prove I could drive, had no desire to!

Suzy...the solar hot water is such a good idea.We wanted to do that when we built but money was tight and the cost was about $6,000.Way too dear for us 15 years ago.
We have continuous gas and never run out.The pilot light starts the heating whenever a tap is turned on.No stored hot water which is cheaper.

Not here, as usual, but too COLD to do anything else before school drop-off!

Heidi, next time I see a post from you, I want to see "Made an appointment" or "Been to the docs" in it!

Suzanne, I rarely saw a bus along any of the routes I had to take though I saw some in other places, and trains were just starting to operate in my last few years there. I remember debates about tire manufacturers being responsible for shutting down a lot of the public transport. When were you there? 1990-2000 for me.

Nola, it would have cost us about $5000 to get solar hot water, but with the rebates around right now it was actually cheaper than the alternatives, especially with the extra plumbing and electrical we would have had to have, but even without that. I have friends with the same system you have. They love it, especially the wife, she says it is perfect with teenagers who refuse to take short showers. The price of gas has gone up so much though (they use bottled) that the hubby is pushing for a switch to solar - especially since he heard how cheap it was for us to do it. Wife is not impressed as she gets to do the leg work on her days off and doesn't really want panels on the roof or big tanks around. I think she's coming over to check out ours tomorrow or Friday.

Good evening from the rainy north of England. We went to the lake district today not the best weather to see the scenery. D#1informed us later that there had been an earthquake where we had been but we didn't feel anything

Just stopped in for a quick hello. Helped Mitchell with his homework. It is due Thursday, he told me about it Monday, and he knew about it last week. Why he didn't tell me so we could work on it over the weekend, I will never know. He has to do a playbill of the play within the play "a midsummers night dream" by shakespeare. I never read the play but am getting a lesson on it now. He does the research and comes up with the ideas. I just do the typing.

Good Evening, Sudoku Friends! I have actually been able to do some catch-up reading. Unfortunately, a couple of pages had links to Youtube videos from Britain's Got Talent. I know we're seeing the best of the best, but it sure seems better than many of the persons "competing" on the US version of the show. Unfortunately, you can get hooked on watching the videos, going from one to another . . .

Another sunny day and I took more photos. Lots of reflections in the water. Going to a top seafood restaurant tonight. I have a slight cold but it is not too bad. We had our flu injections before we came away.
Sorry you got bad weather in the Lake district Brenda. What is new?
Will catch up when we get home.

Evening all!
Brenda - I hope you're right, so far I'm having to adjust to a different water temp, but hopefully I'll get over it.

Suzanne - we lived there at the same time! Wonder if we were ever in the same place... It's so small there after all, ha ha

Tami - how did the other project go?

Julie - that youtube is deadly isn't it?

June - sounds like another wonderful dinner!

Coudn' t believe it when I saw the 'from' of one of our members on the news... it felt good, even though the news is relatively humdrum.

Good Mean Sudokuland! I had a sleep in today, after being up and down much of the night. Hate when that happens, but nice to be able to sleep in whenever I need to.

I was saddened to read this morning of the first Swine flu death in the US. A toddler in Texas, 23 months old.

Good Morning Sudokuland!!
Suzy: That is hysterical that we lived there at the same time!! We lived in North Hollywood from 1999-2004. We also lived in Burbank, Reseda,(until the 1994 earthquake) and Panorama City (our first place together--TINY apartment!!).
MizTricia: Just poured my first cuppa coffee & heard about that child. How sad!!!
Stella: Finally got some sleep last night. Insomnia is a part of my life, has been for the last 15 or so years. Slept ok, but could ALWAYS use more!!!
Hope everyone has a nice day!! I'll check in later.

I just read, that child who died in Texas is from Mexico City and was visiting USA with parents. So you could still say the deaths have been confined to Mexico.

Alabama is still not listed among the US states with cases of flu. I wonder if the tests mentioned on the local news that were being run on Alabama citizens have come back yet.
