all. I've been catching up on ffuts this morning so haven't had a chance to chat.
Mizt hope your hips are feeling better this morning. I know the feeling well after shopping or walking too much sometimes I can hardly climb the stairs to go to bed.

I hate all this talk about c presents... it makes me realise that I am way behind with my shopping. Trouble is I do not know what to buy anyone.
the gifts for friends have been easier this year as I decided to make my own gift packs. For the females I bought some hand painted wine glasses ad some small (the size you get on airplanes) bottles of wine. These I have packaged in a basket with some wrapped chocolates all wrapped in cellophane and ribbon. The males have got a similar sort of package but with beer and beer glasses. The kids (outside the family) I have made 'popcorn' boxes filled them with jelly beans and popped some money into an envelope wrapped all up in cellophane and ribbon.

Hello lovely people - another busy day for me - the Christmas party at Mum's care home was really nice until my aunt and I told her we had to go and she threw a tantrum. Called one of the nurses (they are all as lovely as Liz - takes a special talent and Liz has it!), once she sat down with her, Mum happily let us go - the naughty girl!! She had previously spat her food out on the plate in anger - this from a woman to whom table manners and manners in general were paramount!

Spoke to my lovely long-lost granddaughters today - well 2 of them - Emily the middle one was too busy in the pool to talk to the likes of me but got out later to talk to Colin!! It was lovely to talk to Hayley and she sounds so mature at 8 and a half. Little Chloe got on and when I told her I had a puppy, I heard her say in wonderment, 'Dad, she's got a puppy dog!!' - think I've won her over. Family gathering - all 11 of us - Sunday afternoon. House cleaning for me tomorrow and food preparation on Sunday = busy, busy, busy! Happy, happy, happy!!

CynB your mum sounds just like mine did when she was in the home. Dementia is a rotten ailment, it takes away everything. Does your mum still know who you are?

Gosh - I've been rabbitting on and I'll have to back and read the last 5 pages because I wanted to comment on other things - now what were they?
Tami - love the menorah avatar, MizT is so clever.
Mariana - hardly recognises you with your festive avatar.
Becky's back with her synopsis - but now I have to go back further to read things I've missed out on.
Broni - you don't have to go south for Chrissy - you're always welcome here! And Bella can teach Jewel some manners.
Hi Brenda!

Hi Brenda - yes Mum knows who I am and my sister and her sister. She knows my brother when she sees him but when she's talking about him she calls him - 'that other man in our family' - I'd never have the heart to tell him, he'd be devastated. He has more trouble than my sister and I in dealing with Mum's ailment, yet when Dad had it, my sister and I were the ones who had trouble dealing with it. Must be fathers and daughters and mothers and sons?

Good morning all! Don't have time to catch up on the reading. Another busy day!
Cyn, so happy that you have more shopping to do. Have a great time on Sunday with your family! I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute!
Brenda, I can't believe you buy presents for your friends. That's a lot to do! Last time I gave presents to friends I think I was in high school or college. It sounds like you put together very lovely gifts!

Stella, this is a group of friends I 'inherited' when I married Richard. The males in the group all went to senior school together so have known each other for 36 years or so. I didn't buy for friends before that, family was a big enough problem. Fortunately there is a price limit on gifts for the friends so doesn't work out too expensive

eea, not see us till Christmas? And just where do you intend keeping yourself all that time, that you cannot check in with us? Only an extended holiday to exotic places or an over long stay in hospital is gonna get you excused from the board for THAT long, dearie.
BTW, what is your avatar? Old glasses that do not focus well, here, give me a clue. I see lovely blue colors and a sphere, beyond that I am lost.

Good morning MizT! I need to get some ffuts done. I'm so far behind. Although I did get an uninspired gift for my niece, a nursing stool. It was on her wish list. The staff at Babies R Us was terrible though. I don't want to shop there again!
BTW Heidi, I love the idea of the baby moccs. My kids got a pair when they were born, without the beads! Absolutely loved them!

I'm catching up on comments, but just read yours, CynB, on p 71 about your son calling you. I remember you telling me about him when we met, but I'm hardly game to read any further. I have every part of my body crossed that more good news will follow in the next pages. Taking a deep breath...... back to p 71.

Stella, your family has to do wish lists too? we are so scattered it is easier to do wish lists. We usually draw names, but due to uncertainty over who will come and who will not this year, we will do Dirty Santa gifts.
Hubby found a neat guys gift, a solar powered flash light. Keep it in the sun, and you have light! I found some unusual photo frames, and will be decorating the frames, kind of uninspiring now in a dull brown. but everyone has photos that could be displayed, right? Frame holds 4 photos each, and I got 2 frames. now to find beads and baubles to dress up the frames somewhat, my today project.
I shall be going out to my sister's house to do some gift wrap for her. that mono is not getting better fast, and she is just exhausted, her Hubby is having to do her shopping, and I might do some for her, probably on the way out to visit. I plan on staying overnight, have not done that in forever and it will be fun. there is a day bed in the "gift wrap room", I plan on putting her there, propped up on pillows so she can write the tags and keep straight who get what. Must check with her that she has the proper gift wrap stuff. I love wrapping when I have all the necessities. Take my apron, it holds tags and tape and scissors and pencils. I still have the scotch pop up tape dispenser, you wear it on your hand, easy to find the tape!! Double sticky tape is also a necessity. Wired ribbon is a plus, too, but I am sure she does not have that!
all this obsession about gift wrap comes from being a 11 year old, having to wrap all my grandmother's gifts, with NO BOXES, only sheets of paper that is usually not big enough, no scotch tape, only the Christmas Seals that were sent in th mail, and only the narrow curly ribbon to tie them up with. I thought those the UGLIEST packages in creation, the paper dark and muddy in colors, YUCK! I vowed them when I grew up I would have everything it takes to make lovely presents hehehe Al even made me a hanging rack for holding my spools of ribbons and my gift wrap! I bought about 11 rolls of same paper 2 years ago, so many of my gifts are wrapped in that, lovely colored gifts with big beautiful ribbon on the paper. I found it the day after Christmas, two large rolls for $1 and bought all they had of that pattern. If I were healthier and closer to the big city, I would hire out to gift wrap, those are usually last minute jobs, but many a over worked upwardly mobile young family would pay to have everything wrapped for them in their home on Christmas Eve even hehehe

...still catching up...Viv, both my boys work/ed at fast food places with uniforms supplied. What Ethan's boss said about not providing uniforms (as required by law) for staff as they don't look after them is handled by requiring a $20/40 deposit out of their first pay which is refunded if the uniform is returned in good condition, allowing for wear and tear, when they finish up. Great news to hear hubby has a job, but I also think it's only single mothers who are required to return to work when their youngest turns 6. Married women with children are not required to work - they get FTA if they don't work, and the smaller FTB if they do. The government actually wants mothers to stay home with their children. I think it's cheaper for them to pay FTA than provide day care places.
